Yes. A parent or legal guardian should collect a minor child’s cheek-swab sample using the kit instructions. The process is non-invasive and does not require a blood draw.
To reduce collection errors, wash hands before collecting samples, avoid touching the swab tip, and make sure each participant’s swabs are correctly labeled.

If the laboratory cannot process a sample because it is insufficient, damaged, contaminated, incorrectly labeled, or delayed in transit, it may request a recollection. A recollection can extend the expected results timeline.

No. An at-home, self-collected test is non-legal. It cannot generally be converted into a court-admissible test after collection because required identity verification and chain-of-custody documentation were not completed at the time of sample collection.
If there is any chance you will need the result for court, child support, custody, immigration, inheritance, or another official purpose, arrange a legal DNA paternity test first.
